Plot / Synopsis: 
The story is simple: in a small town, the state-owned car factory, which employs almost all the local men, is about to be privatized. The latest film by French comic provocateurs Delépine and Kervern (Louise-Michel) could be described as knockabout farce in the name of the Revolution. Following their languid Gérard Depardieu vehicle Mammuth, Le Grand Soir is a much more focused and aggressive romp, and should crack up domestic audiences, thanks to the genially abrasive presence of popular  faces Albert Dupontel and Benoît Poelvoorde. Exports should be healthy despite some  verbal humour defying translation; luckily the visual comedy speaks its own language.

90 minutes follows three Norwegian families at home in their expensive, stylish apartments. The Eluana Englaro case became a cause célèbre in Italy, sparking a national debate about the thorny issue of euthanasia. Injured in a car accident, Englaro lived in a vegetative state for seventeen years while her father fought a series of court battles to have her feeding tube removed.
The film is split into three separate narratives that allow Bellocchio to approach the subject from a variety of perspectives. In one strand, a senator has to grapple with his divided feelings as he prepares himself for a parliamentary vote on the issue of Englaro’s fate. To complicate matters, his beloved daughter finds herself on exactly the opposite side of the question: passionately pro-life, she takes to the streets to fight for Englaro’s right to live. The second story features a family torn by the same issue as the Englaros: with her daughter in a coma, a famous singer (and devout Catholic) has essentially abandoned her career to care for her stricken child — a sacrifice that her disapproving son regards as pointless. Directed by adult films pioneer, Lasse Braun, this was his third feature film. This film stars the incredible Catherine Ringer, who plays Martine, the teenage daughter of a baron (Jean Gerard Sorlin). Martine is a sexy but spoiled young girl, who has a steamy and possessive affair with the lovely blonde Gilda (Gilda Arancio). Martine also has a sex slave named Nana (Gemma Gimenez), a girl from Uruguay, who lives in a travel trailer on the palace grounds. She shares her with a reporter (Jacques Gateau) who befriends her after interviewing her stepmother, Glenda (Gwenda Farnel). There are only four major erotic scenes but they are well filmed, exciting and a genuine turn-on. Lasse Braun is no stranger in eutorrents [Sensations], but here with higher production values, better story and original music [by ex-Tangerine Dream electronics whiz Klaus Schulze] it appears to be aiming for the larger art house soft-core audience that films like Emmanuelle were attracting. I think Klaus Schulze’s sounds capes elevate this very attractive “art house” film into a genuine trippy experience. If you like Pink Floyd you will love this soundtrack.
